We oftentimes develop lifelong immunity when we have had a condition or exposure to some sort. When we vaccinate, we activate the immune system’s “memory.” During vaccination, a weakened microbe, a fragment, or something that resembles it, is added to the body. The immune system is then activated without us becoming sick.
How COVID-19 Works
It’s important to understand how Covid vaccines work. According to CDC, “mRNA vaccines contain material from the virus that causes COVID-19 that gives our cells instructions for how to make a harmless protein that is unique to the virus. After our cells make copies of the protein, they destroy the genetic material from the vaccine.”
Getting Fully vaccinated
Its been almost a week since I was fully vaccinated and I am fortunate enough not to experience adverse reactions to it. Currently, 71.3% of Albertans age 12+ have had at least one dose while more than 20 percent are now fully vaccinated.
I am a healthy young man in the early ’20s and my first dose for Moderna was quite nerf racking. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel a single thing within the first 24 hrs however, my arm became sore the next day followed by tiredness which faded away on the second day.
My second dose however was fascinating, my hand was never sore and the only side effect was weakness/tiredness which began eight hours after the jab. When in bed, I felt warm but was not sweating even when my AC was running. This was odd to me but suddenly went away just before the afternoon the next day. My second dose side effects lasted roughly 24 hours.
How I handle COVID-19 conspiracy theorists
The simple answer to that is you don`t engage. I have had my fair share of friends that do believe in these redundant theories. Its always welcome to share valuable insights however sticking with proven scientific facts and research is key. You may have to make some complicated decisions.
In other moments in time, you may have been able to just agree to disagree with friends or family members who hold strong beliefs that are completely unsubstantiated. My path is quite clear and generally, I am not at liberty to respond to these theories when it comes to health misinformation. How I handle inaccurate information is by completely restricting the communication method, I have also gone to the level of completely cleaning my friend’s list on social media platforms but that’s not the end of it.
It’s important to understand where you are in life as an individual and wage your own risk whether you want to continue to be in the same circle. You’ve probably heard it more times than you can count. “You’re the average of the five people spend the most time with,” a quote attributed most often to motivational speaker Jim Rohn. There’s also the “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future”
